The site inspection is where every job starts. Here is exactly what it is, so you know what to expect before you book.
You speak to the owner
You speak to the owner, and the owner runs the job. I come out myself, I measure, I test, and I tell you straight what the floor needs.
What I look at
The inspection follows the same checks we describe in the Floor Ready Guide. I am looking at:
- Moisture. A slab can be dry on top and still releasing vapour, so I test it and record the reading.
- Flatness against level. I check for hollows that would let click joints flex and separate.
- Cracks and joints. I classify what is there, because a crack telegraphs through the finish unless it is treated first.
- Contamination. Old adhesive, paint and sealers stop a bond forming.
- The existing floor. What comes up, what stays and what it hides, assessed before we price, not after take-up.
- Transitions. Doors, tiles, carpet and stairs, with heights and trims planned so there are no trip edges.
Grinding and levelling are then worked out from what I find, not assumed in advance.
What you get after
You get a written scope. It covers the preparation, the product and the install method in writing, priced once. Allowances are spelled out, so nothing ambushes you later.
That scope is built on what we test and record in your house, before we price. If the slab needs preparation, it says so. If it does not, it says that too.
What happens if you go ahead
The job runs in the order that protects the floor:
- Prep and verify. Grinding, crack treatment and levelling to specification, with readings recorded before the finish goes down.
- Install. A clean arrival, rooms sealed off and a tight finish. You deal with one business the whole way.
- Handover. A dust-free clean, care instructions and documentation. If anything needs a look afterwards, ring me.
Before I arrive
You do not need to prepare much. Have your questions about products ready, and know which rooms you are re-flooring. If you want a head start on what I will be checking, the Floor Ready Guide has a 10-minute self-check you can do tonight with a torch and a straight edge.
What to do next
Book the site inspection and tell us about the job. I will come out, test the moisture, check the flatness and give you a written scope you can compare against any other quote.
